Join us for an unforgettable evening at The Greek Experience 2025, where East meets West in a spectacular salute to Maria Callas; the most iconic soprano of the 20th century.

This tribute is led by soprano Mary Yumei Liu, an acclaimed artist and recipient of the 2025 King Charles III Medal. Mrs. Liu has performed leading roles in many of Puccini’s operas, including CioCio San in Madama Butterfly, Mimi in La Bohème, Liu in Turandot, and the title role in Tosca. Her Verdi roles include Violetta in La Traviata and Aida in Aida, among others.

Her international performances have taken her to renowned venues such as:

  • Carnegie Hall, New York
    • Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts
    • The National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing
    • Opera Fest di Roma
    • The 55th Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, Italy
    • Opera Varna, Bulgaria
    • With the New Jersey State Opera and Queens Opera

She has also appeared in special concerts across China, performing operatic repertoire accompanied by the La Scala Chamber Orchestra of Milan and the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Chamber Orchestra of Italy.

Also joining the Maria Callas tribute is celebrated tenor Colin Yip, President of the Toronto School of Music. He will perform alongside Mrs. Liu in the beloved duet from La Traviata.

Both artists are internationally respected judges for the annual Bellini–Verdi International Music Competition in Italy. This competition was established not only to support emerging vocal talents in their journey toward operatic careers, but also to honor the legendary soprano Maria Callas through the “Maria Callas Special Award.”

With decades of teaching inspired by Callas’ vocal and dramatic legacy, Mary Liu brings a distinctive perspective to the art of opera. Through curated performances, rare archival materials, and interpretive commentary, she will guide the audience through the artistry of Maria Callas—not just as a voice, but as a transformative figure in music and stagecraft.

Victoria Yip, a distinguished young vocalist from Toronto, Canada, joins the Maria Callas Tribute to perform Callas’s beloved aria “Una voce poco fa” from Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. A classically trained musician since childhood, Victoria studied voice at the Toronto School of Music and has performed at the Glenn Gould Studio to wide acclaim. Winner of the 2018 International Youth Arts Festival Vocal Competition and recipient of numerous excellence awards, she is a versatile performer and multi-instrumentalist, active in genres from classical and jazz to disco and R&B. Currently the lead singer of Soul Sublime, a member of SPLÜSH, and a dedicated music educator, Victoria continues to inspire audiences through her dynamic artistry and devotion to the performing arts.
